The Blåfjella-Skjækerfjella National Park is in close proximity to Steinkjer which makes for a great day trip just slightly north of the town based in the middle of Norway. Car hire in Steinkjer will make for a relaxing trip to explore the various lakes and landscapes nearby. It's also relatively near the long stretch of eastern coastline of Norway, but don't expect a sunbathing holiday as temperatures rarely peak above 19, even in the summer. Rent a car in Steinkjer and you can experience the landscapes representative of the region, making for great scenic drives. There are also ample camping opportunities and chance to take a trip across the Lake Snåsa in the Bonden II, a classic Nordic fishing boat
The city itself is a re-constructed city in Norway and has been cited as one of the best. You'll find a mix of traditional shops and cafes amongst modern ones and modern architecture. If you're hiring a car in Steinkjer, then there's much more to explore than just the local amenities. The town lies right next to the E6 main highway, which spans the entirety of the country. Depending how long you have in the country, you're pretty well connected - with a lengthy drive - to any one of the bigger cities.
