You'll find the tiny city of Fagernes in the heart of southern Norway, and 12 miles north west of Oslo. This part of Oppland is known as Valdres, and has become popular with tourists because of the green picturesque valleys and easily accessible mountains. Visitors who decide to hire a car in Fagernes can tour this beautiful landscape via the E16 trunk road that runs through the city, or the smaller country roads that branch off into the mountains from here. Hiking, fishing and biking are big attractions in the Valdres region in the summer and snow sports are the draw in the winter.
Fagernes stands alongside beautiful Stronda Fjord, which means there are beaches and islands to explore, as well as the surrounding forests and rolling green hills with an impressive backdrop of mountains.

The main sight in the area is the Valdres Folk Museum on the edge of the city. It's one of Norway's biggest open-air museums with 100 historic buildings and 20,000 objects to see. Fagnernes' airport is six miles away from the city.
