Emmen is a planned town close to the German border in the East Netherlands; it enjoys a road network that is second to none thanks to the intricate planning which went into Emmen's construction since its inception. Every year these roads are host to Gouden Pijl, a bike race which has been won by some of the world's top cyclists. Hire a car in Emmen to see its wondrous historical landmarks and places of interest, such as the gorgeous Great Church and an artwork named Broken circle/Spiral Hill, finished there in 1971 by the American artist Robert Smithson for an annual arts festival held in the town.
Emmen's main attraction is the zoo; currently housed on two neighbouring sites, a new zoo will be opened in 2015 that's only a short walk from the town centre; given the town's excellent road links within the region and to the rest of the Netherlands, it's hoping to attract millions of visitors from across the country. Car in Emmen is ideal for those wishing to take in the town's historical sites as well as the major tourist attractions like the afore-mentioned zoo. Emmen also boasts a wide range of eateries for those who want to sample delicious Dutch cuisine.
Hiring a car in Emmen means it's possible to make a visit almost anywhere within the country, as well as to neighbouring Germany. The A37 motorway which runs from the west just a few miles out of town links too many big Dutch destinations. It links to the A28, which will allow anyone choosing to take up car hire in Emmen to reach the city of Amsterdam in under two hours, and cross the country to Rotterdam in just over two hours. The A37 (E233) even allows you to reach the German city of Bremen in two hours, for a new experience of European culture entirely.
