The town of Hofn stands at the tip of a peninsula in the southeast corner of Iceland amid a spectacular landscape of beaches, sand bars, lagoons and islands. Three miles inland, alongside a tidal inlet, you'll find the Hornafjordur Airport, which provides internal flights to Reykjavik on the west coast. Besides the remote beauty located in this region, hiring a car in Hofn allows you to travel further afield in Iceland - with a major point of interest being Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe, as well as one of the continent's largest national parks - which contains a number of active volcanoes.
If you pick up a hire car in Hofn, you'll have access to the outer reaches of the country including its beautiful scenery and numerous local attractions. The town may be a small and remote fishing settlement almost encircled by the sea, but there's no denying the local geography is impressive. That's why it has become a centre for adventure tourists, boat tours and explorations into the wild landscapes. But the town itself has a few things to look out for - spot the homely little museums of folk craft and Icelandic geology. Hofn's most popular site, however, is the swimming pool - complete with an ice bath.
