Wuppertal is in the Wupper valley, but the Wupper river. It is an unusual German city because of its linear layout, which is dictated by the steep slopes of the valley. It is close to Düsseldorf, and it was here in 1897 that Aspirin was invented. The European Institute for International Relations is based in Wuppertal, as is the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy. Car hire in Wuppertal will get you in front of the town’s 4,500 monuments and historical points of interest. Hiring a car in Wuppertal means you can drive right under the most impressive sight in the city, the brilliant floating monorail.
