The city of Pickering stands on the north shore of Lake Ontario in Canada, just 24 miles to the east of the bigger city of Toronto. Visitors who hire a car in Pickering will find all the attractions of Toronto easy to hand along Highway 41. These include the CN Tower, the Zoo, Casa Loma Museum and Canada's Wonderland Theme Park. The world-class destination of Niagara Falls is just over 1 miles away by road although boat trips to the Falls across the lake are often available too. The vast wilderness of Algonquin National Park is about two hours drive to the north.
Pickering may have Toronto close by, but its identity is still its own. Rent a car in Pickering and you'll be able to find the attractions easily. The city makes good use of its lakeside location with beaches, marinas and waterfront parks. The highlight is Pickering's Nautical Village: a leafy lakeside resort area, with a kids' playground, free live music, cafes, shops and a waterfront boardwalk. Elsewhere, look out for Pickering's Museum Village, where costumed guides present 18 historic buildings and their authentic contents. Canada's busiest road, Highway 401, runs right through Pickering's centre but a covered bridge over the 14 lanes of traffic links the waterfront with the busy shopping mall that contains more than 200 shops.
