Hertz at Charlottetown

The largest city on Prince Edward Island, Charlottetown, was named after Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz who was Queen Consort of the United Kingdom. The city boasts a harbour of the same name, and is a mixture of modern urban buildings and older, historical ones. Hiring a car in Charlottetown means you will be able to visit the harbour in your own time. The historical Victorian buildings that make up the downtown section of the city are certainly a highlight for any visitor, but the city has plenty more to offer than just that.

A major highlight on the cultural calendar for Charlottetown is the Charlottetown Festival, which is held annually and is headlined each year by Anne of Green Gables: The Musical. Hiring a car in Charlottetown not only means that you can travel across the largest city on Prince Edward Island with ease, but you can also break free from the city and explore the rest of the island.

Visitors to Charlottetown should definitely check out the Charlottetown Festival. Held each year between May and October since its inception in 1965, the festival is theatre focussed with deep roots in both community and history. Each year, the headline performance is of Anne of Green Gables: The Musical.

Musicals are the focus of the festival and each year, over 60 new musicals are performed as part of it. Fans of musical theatre, as well as patrons of the arts should flock to the city during these months, and renting a car in Charlottetown ensures that anyone wanting to see the whole festival won't miss out.

There are plenty of interesting locations close by, including towns like Cornwall and Stratford, named after their English counterparts. There is also the more populated Summerside, where hockey fans will be pleased to learn that a great many players in the NHL call home.

Those interested in history maybe keen to visit All Souls' Chapel National Historic Site of Canada which is a historical chapel built in 1888 or the Ardgowan National Historic Site of Canada which was once the home to William Henry Pope.
