The Ministro Victor Konder International Airport is just two miles to the north of the city of Navegantes in southern Brazil. It has a large modern terminal and plenty of open and covered parking. The airport occupies a flat strip between the winding Rio Itajaí-Açu and the Atlantic Ocean. The wide expanses and densely wooded hills of the Municipal Natural Park are to the north. Visitors who hire a car at the airport will find it easy to drive into the centre of Navegantes and the beach is even closer. The route to the neighbouring city of Itajai however is much longer because the first bridge across the river is several miles inland.
If you hire a car at Navegantes Airport it's a short drive to get to explore the city. They both lie on the north bank of the Rio Itajai-acu. Navegantes is a seaside resort with a busy fishing and shipbuilding harbour. The highlights for most tourists, however, are those long clean sandy beaches. South of the mouth of the river, Balneário Camboriú is rated as one of the country's very best beach resorts. Amongst the collection of high-rise hotels here the two beautiful beaches are linked by cable car. Look out too for the lively music scene and the city's trademark sight: a strange combination of lighthouse and statue.
