There's an abundance of beautiful coastal drives in Victoria, including the Great Ocean Road. Hiring a car in Frankston is available from the Downtown area of the city, or Melbourne's airports, amongst others venues.

Frankston is the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula, combining the best of Melbourne's city life, with beautiful beaches and scenic drives. Frankston Beach is one of the many beaches on this stretch of coast, in hot competition with the alternative coves of Port Phillip Bay. Further beaches can be found in Mornington Peninsula National Park, including the Sorrento Ocean Beach (via the M11). Hiring a car in Frankston is recommended for anyone intent on beach hopping. The Bayside Shopping Centre and Centro Karingal are the two main shopping precincts, with the latter just outside of town. Rent a car in Frankston and the pleasant Nepean Highway will transport you to Melbourne in 45minutes.

Anyone who uses Frankston as a base from which to explore Melbourne might be tempted to settle back with a coffee in the famous Block Arcade, and then relax further in Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens. Those with a thirst for culture should absorb the renowned artworks in the National Gallery of Victoria. For a scenic daytrip adventure, continue to drive past Melbourne towards Geelong and begin touring Victoria on the Great Ocean Road. If scenic drives are your thing but you don't have time to head that far afield, head for the famous Dandenong Ranges on the M3 (about 50mins from Frankston).
