Hertz at Nevis Port/Heritage Quay

St John's is the main port and capital city of Antigua and Barbuda, and is situated in the West Indies. St John's is best-known for its shopping centres and boutiques which are located throughout the city, selling a variety of haute couture clothing and high-end jewellery.

Hiring a car in St John's is the best way to fit everything into your journey; get around the shops or find somewhere peaceful to watch the cruise ships sailing in and out. Take time to admire the beautiful views as St John's has some of the best scenery of the islands.

Rent a car from St John's and take a trip just out of the harbour to Fort James. The fort was built in 1706 to protect the harbour and it was actually built by the British. Almost 40 guns were once in place here to salute visiting warships when they arrived, but only one survives today.

You should also check out Fort James Beach in Fort Bay which is hugely popular with both tourists and locals alike, and it is only a 5-10 minute drive from St John's. Here there are always beach volleyball and cricket games to take part in – unless you'd rather see the real thing being played at the Antigua Recreation Ground.
